What we do

RefrigeratorSelect catalogs and rates nearly every refrigerator currently sold in the United States — close to 6,000 models across more than 40 brands. For each one we publish capacity, dimensions, energy use, and feature data alongside an editorial rating, so you can compare options without bouncing between five manufacturer websites.

Where our data comes from

Technical specifications — capacity in cubic feet, exterior dimensions, annual kWh usage, ENERGY STAR certification, defrost type — come from the U.S. Department of Energy / ENERGY STAR public dataset and from manufacturer documentation. We refresh the catalog periodically as ENERGY STAR releases updated data.

How we rate

Every refrigerator is scored on five dimensions, weighted into a single overall rating:

• Reliability (30%) — brand service record, parts availability, common failure modes, warranty length.
• Value (25%) — price relative to capacity, build quality, and feature set within the same tier.
• Features (25%) — connectivity, ice and water dispenser, drawer flexibility, interior lighting, smart diagnostics.
• Energy (20%) — annual kWh per cubic foot of capacity, ENERGY STAR certification, and Most Efficient designation.

Ratings are editorial assessments — informed by specs, brand-tier signals, and category norms — not hands-on lab tests. We're transparent about this so you can weight our take appropriately alongside owner reviews and professional single-unit testers.

Editorial independence

No manufacturer pays for placement, a rating bump, or inclusion on a Best Picks list. We don't accept review units, sponsorships, or any payment tied to how we cover a specific product. Rankings are determined by the rating methodology above — full stop.

How we make money

RefrigeratorSelect is supported by two sources:

• Affiliate commissions when you click a link to a retailer (Home Depot, Best Buy, Lowe's, AJ Madison, etc.) and make a purchase. The price you pay is the same; the retailer pays us a small percentage. Which retailer carries a model has zero influence on our rating.
• Display advertising through Google AdSense. Ads are served independently of our editorial content; we don't choose advertisers and we don't endorse anything we don't explicitly review.

What this site is not

We're not a hands-on test lab. We're not a retailer — we don't sell appliances or hold inventory. We're not a manufacturer trade publication. Treat our ratings as a structured starting point for narrowing your shortlist, then verify pricing, availability, and exact dimensions with the retailer before you buy.
